Scientech FAQs

STEM Career FAQs | The Scientech Career System™

Welcome to Scientech’s STEM career FAQs! Here, you’ll find answers about my approach to career marketing, coaching, and what to expect when working with Scientech.

I work with STEM professionals and technical leaders at different stages of their careers—from recent graduates and early-career professionals to experienced technical leaders and senior executives. I also provide training, workshops, and advisory support for organizations working with STEM and technical talent.

I’ve answered the questions I hear most often below.

About Scientech

Your technical expertise is valuable, but it doesn't always speak for itself. I help you communicate not just what you do, but why it matters and where you can make an impact—without losing the technical substance behind it.
The Scientech Career System™ connects these parts through 3 tiers: Clarity & Positioning ➞ Visibility & Outreach ➞ Interviews & Offers. Rather than treating your resume, LinkedIn, networking, interviews, and negotiations as separate pieces, we align them to work together as connected parts of the same job search.
Where we start depends on your situation and where you need the most support. You can work with me on one tier or combine tiers as your needs evolve.
I work primarily with STEM professionals and those in technically adjacent fields across all career stages. My clients work across science, engineering, R&D, product development, IT, healthcare and medical fields, program and project management, operations, finance, and other fields where specialized knowledge and technical expertise are central to the work. They represent a broad range of industries, including specialty chemicals, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, semiconductors, aerospace, renewable energy, industrial manufacturing, and medical devices.
Yes. I work with clients worldwide. Individual career marketing and coaching engagements are conducted virtually, while training, workshops, speaking, and advisory engagements can be delivered virtually or in person, depending on the organization and the program. My approach accounts for the audience, industry, and goals.

What Scientech Can Help You Accomplish

Scientech helps you navigate your job search with more clarity, stronger positioning, and a more deliberate strategy for connecting with the right people and opportunities.
That might mean clarifying your career direction, communicating your technical expertise, increasing your visibility, building strategic relationships, strengthening your interview skills, or evaluating and negotiating an offer.
You don't have to know exactly what you need before we start. We'll assess where you are and what's getting in the way to see what support can make the biggest difference.
The specific outcome depends on what we're working on. The focus is on helping you position yourself more effectively—on paper, online, and in conversation—connect with the right people, and make informed career decisions.
You might leave with a clearer career target, a cohesive professional narrative, stronger online visibility, more effective networking and interview strategies, or a more informed approach to evaluating and negotiating with your goals and priorities at the forefront.
While hiring decisions are ultimately outside my control, I can help you become more strategic and effective in how you present yourself, build relationships, and pursue opportunities aligned with your goals.
Coaching is integrated into the Scientech Career System™ to help you put your career marketing and positioning strategies into practice.
That can include developing a focused job search and networking outreach strategy, communicating your value in interviews and other professional conversations, or defining your salary goals and advocating for yourself during negotiations.
Coaching can also help you get more out of your career marketing by connecting the story we develop on paper and online to how you present yourself, build relationships, and pursue opportunities.

Working Together

Both. Resume writing is just one part of what I do, but it's not the whole strategy.
We may work on career positioning, LinkedIn visibility, networking, interview preparation, job search strategy, or offer evaluation and salary negotiation.
We start with a discovery consultation to understand your goals and challenges and determine what level of support makes sense. Some clients benefit from connecting several parts of the job search, while others need targeted support.
Start by booking a free discovery consultation. We'll discuss your goals, where you are in your career journey, what's getting in the way, and whether Scientech is the right fit. If we're a good fit, I'll recommend the next step based on your needs.
I'll outline the scope of our engagement, what I'll need from you, and what to expect at each stage.
For career-marketing and writing projects, we'll start with in-depth career-intelligence gathering to understand your experience, goals, and target direction before developing your positioning strategy and professional narrative. You'll have opportunities to review the work, provide feedback, and ask questions before we finalize your materials.
When coaching is included, we'll build on that foundation to put your strategy into practice, whether through networking, interview preparation, or evaluating and responding to an offer.
Timelines depend on the scope of the engagement, but Scientech isn't a resume mill, and I don't turn around career materials in 24-48 hours. The work requires time to understand your experience, clarify your goals, and develop a positioning strategy that works across your career materials and your job search. Career marketing projects typically take a few weeks, while coaching engagements take longer as we work through multiple stages and put your strategy into practice.
You don't need to have either to work with me. If you have existing materials, I'll review them as part of the process. However, I don't edit or revise resumes or LinkedIn profiles I haven't written; each is developed from scratch.
Rather than simply updating what you already have, I'll consider your experience, goals, and target roles to develop the positioning strategy and content for your next career move.
This allows us to build a cohesive professional narrative around where you're going.
Absolutely. We can focus on your resume, but I want to be upfront: I can write you an excellent resume, but I would be doing you a disservice if I didn't help you understand what it can and can't do on its own.
That's why I pair resume and LinkedIn: they serve different but complementary purposes. The first stage of the Scientech Career System™ is Clarity & Positioning, which establishes the foundation for your entire job search.
Your resume is your marketing pitch for applications, while LinkedIn helps you build visibility beyond them and gives people another way to find you and learn more about you. Together, they provide a stronger foundation for your job search, but you'll still need to take an active role in building relationships and pursuing opportunities beyond applying online.

Practical Questions

I use AI very selectively as a research and analysis tool for cross-referencing job requirements and identifying patterns that can inform strategy. However, AI cannot reliably make the judgment calls needed to determine what matters, what to emphasize, and how to build a cohesive, future-focused professional narrative.
I never use AI to write your career documents or rely on templates. Your resume, LinkedIn, and other materials are developed from scratch.
I also never upload your personal information or any client materials into AI systems.
No. Hiring decisions involve factors outside either of our control, and I believe promising specific hiring outcomes is unethical.
What I can do is help you strengthen your positioning, communicate your value, develop a more strategic search, and prepare to make a compelling case for your fit.
I'll also equip you with the tools and strategies to take a more proactive approach to connecting with the right people and pursuing opportunities, but I can't do the job search for you.
Every engagement includes communication, feedback, and review appropriate to the scope of work. If you have questions or concerns, we'll address them as part of that process.
The goal isn't simply to deliver documents or complete coaching sessions, but to ensure you understand the strategy behind our work and how to put it into practice.
Every client also receives lifetime email access for job-search-related questions or quick guidance on the work we've completed, with a typical response time of 1-2 business days.

For Organizations

I provide professional training, workshop development, and advisory support for organizations that hire, develop, and support STEM and technical professionals.
Topics have included:
  • Translating technical expertise into organizational value
  • Building professional visibility and strategic relationships
  • Navigating the hidden job market
  • Developing effective career marketing strategies
  • Communicating qualifications and impact in interviews and other high-stakes conversations
The goal is to equip technical talent with practical frameworks they can apply throughout their careers while helping organizations better support professional development, career mobility, and talent retention.
I work with organizations that hire, develop, or support STEM professionals, including companies with technical teams, recruiting and staffing firms, professional associations, universities, and workforce development organizations across industries.
Yes. I tailor the content, format, and depth to your audience, objectives, and professional development needs. Programs can be delivered as standalone workshops, a series of sessions, or part of a broader training or development initiative.
